Maria is an Artist based out of Vancouver, BC.
Currently, she is enthralled with the alchemy of the Wet Plate Process which has filled her life with the magic of a dark room.
Though this historical photographic process was short lived from its invention in the 1850s, it’s not uncommon to find 150 year old plates in near perfect condition.
Each plate, glass (Ambrotype) or metal (Tintype) is individually prepared by hand and must be developed in a darkroom within just a few minutes of exposure.
Every plate is recycled over and over until it is exposed with its destined image and then it is sealed for eternity with a blend of lavender oil and gum sandarac resin.
